Teen Musician Showcase presents...

Rural Soul Productions' "Teen Musician's Showcase" series happily presents May's teen talents: singer Maria McAllister, with musical partners (sister) Kate McAllister (voice), Alex Diffee (guitar), Sarah Pelletier (bass), and Nicole Bruce (guitar). This talented crew is from Gloversville, NY. They play a wide variety of music, but tend to dig into the indie rock realm.

The opening special guest is singer Ali Beck, who is a GCS student, with Natalie Pavelock on guitar and ukelele. Maria and Ali are cousins and will certainly combine singing forces before the night is over.

Saturday, May 28th at 7:30 p.m. at Upstairs at 111. $5 at the door; bring 3 friends and you get in for free.

In April, Anna Maria French and Meara McTague visited us from Burnt Hills, NY and played guitar, mandolin, banjo, and piano and sang folk and pop songs of old and new. Rural Soul was extremely impressed with their performance!!

Get ready, it's Burton Hall Hootenanny time!

The trees are budding, the birds have returned, and the third ever Burton Hall Hootenanny is just around the corner! On Saturday, May 21st Rural Soul Productions will once again host this wonderful musical event, bringing you a variety of music from some of the northeast’s finest talents. This time around, the list of great bands will include Dry Town Drifters, Gin Mill Julep, Wildwood Bluegrass Band and local favorites, Eastbound Jesus. In Hootenanny spirit, the event will host a number of special guests, who may perform short sets of their own or may jump on stage to join other bands.

The Hootenanny has been a great success in the past and RSP hopes to have their biggest turnout to date this Spring. From traditional country music to pop to straight up “in your face” bluegrass and rock n’ roll, this concert intends to put forth a little something for everyone in the greater-Easton community to enjoy, whatever their musical tastes may be. People young to not-so-young are encouraged to join in the fun!

The Dry Town Drifters will kick off this Hootenanny performing vintage country music. The band's repertoire includes classics by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Chris LeDoux, with rodeo/cowboy influences. The band members include Aaron Hahn (guitar, harmonica, lead vocals), Marty Guidon (lead guitar), Rich Stiles (drums), and Dick Winchell (bass). The Dry Town Drifters originated in 2010 as part of a horse rescue mission in Argyle, NY.

Gin Mill Julep is a four piece acoustic blend of mandolin, accordion, guitar and bass, visiting us all the way from Portland, Maine! Special guests on clarinet and fiddle may join in the fray. Playing a mix of old time prohibition era pop songs, traditional Finnish melodies, and silly barnyard ditties, they are sure to make every person in the room smile.

Wildwood is a bluegrass music group that plays a variety of tunes ranging from traditional to modern, from Bill Monroe to Alison Krauss, from Merle Haggard to the Beatles! Having regrouped in June of 2010, Wildwood consists of 4 “veterans” of the local music scene: May Tolley (vocals, bass, mandolin, guitar), Jamie Ransom (vocals, guitar), Rick Heyniger (vocals, bass, banjo, mandolin), and Randy Gates (banjo, mandolin, guitar). Their exceptional vocal harmonies and the ability of the members to interchange instruments adds to the versatility of this well rounded group of entertainers.

Eastbound Jesus is bluegrass-rock quintet from Greenwich, NY. Formed just in the fall of 2010 the band has come a long way in a short time. With the release of their full length debut album this past January, full of original songs and sounds, the group has begun to develop a loyal and rapid-growing following in the area. The band looks forward to their return to Burton Hall, as it was at the Harvest Hootenanny last November that they performed their very first show.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; music begins at 7:00 p.m. $15 suggested donation at the door. Burton Hall is located at 1021 State Rte. 40 in North Easton, NY. RSP is happy to announce that part of the proceeds from this show will go into a music program fund for underprivileged children. The details of this new program will be revealed at the Hootenanny!

March = a Very Merry Month!

"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: the Musical"

Rural Soul Productions' homegrown theater group has been busy preparing an original musical version of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs", based on the tale by the Brothers Grimm, to be debuted at Burton Hall on Route 40 in Easton NY.

Adam Brockway and Ryan Farrell, with input from other creative friends along the way, wrote this script with a local, comical twist. John Shoemaker contributed a lively musical number specifically for his character.

Full steam ahead

February is chock full of musical delights!
From here through the spring it is full steam ahead, folks!

VDay Cabaret
This past weekend, Adam Brockway, Chelsie Henderson, and other local artists took part in Con Brio Performing Art's "Valentine's Day Celebration" performances at 70 Main Street in Greenwich. I heard many area singers for the first time - many of them of high school age - and was so impressed with their stage presence and verve! A highlight was John Shoemaker's performance of "Zaidee's Song" (a tribute to his lovely wife), complete with comic banter and high kicks. Check out what Con Brio Performing Arts is up to HERE. These shows are not to be missed!

The Teen Musicians Showcase will feature Cambridge area singer Morgan Hall on Saturday, February 26th at 7:30 p.m. "Upstairs at 111" - 111 Main Street, Greenwich. Only $4 at the door!

Morgan Renee Hall has always been interested in music, but in her teen years she has really found her genre. She's been involved in the theater for several years, acting and singing in musicals such as Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, Beauty and The Beast, and Guys and Dolls. She r
ecently received the roll of Carmen Diaz in Fame the musical at Cambridge Central School. The real privilege she says, was working with Jay Kerr of the Fort Salem Theater, where she performed in a cabaret series.

Dave and Adam at DISH Bistro

Dave Wright and Adam Brockway will be filling Dish with sweet sounds on Friday, February 25th at 8:00 p.m. Special guests will certainly be jumping in to ride their musical waves.
See you there!

A Whirlwind Weekend!

What other town can boast about being home to Bob Warren; Harold Ford, Laura Lucy and other members of the Spirit of Johnny Cash; and the members of Eastbound Jesus (among other incredible artists!)? What other town can boast about how ambitious, committed, and supportive the people of its community are? What other town can boast that all of these talented, special musicians performed in concerts back-to-back in one weekend, with their amazing community involving itself in the entire (or much of) explosion of musical expression!?

Eastbound Jesus

Eastbound Jesus started the weekend early with their CD release show at Upstairs at 111 on Thursday night. They PACKED the place with wonderful family and friends! All 50 customized CDs were scooped up and swept away to new homes. I've seen posts on Facebook such as "Can't stop listening to Eastbound Jesus!" and "...Eastbound Jesus is further proof that Greenwich, Washington County New York is the new epicenter of all things that rock. Can I get a witness?" Rather than attempt to accurately portray the gritty, awesome intensity of this hard-working band with words, I'll share this (amateur-ly recorded on a Flip video recorder) clip from the CD release show: Ghost Town. This was the opening tune!
If you are interested in purchasing "Eastbound Jesus Greatest Hits Volume 1" CD, go to thee Eastbound Jesus Facebook Band Profile page and let the boys know!

Next came Harold Ford and the Cash Band at the Elks Lodge on Friday night. This was a benefit show for the beloved Peter Maine, a stellar drummer from the area (he plays with the Cash Band). The Dry Town Drifters (from Argyle) started up the toe-tapping good time, followed by the featured performers. Part of the proceeds from the Eastbound Jesus show was thrown into the raised funds pile! Both bands were nothing short of fantastic. The event itself was touching and very community-reinforcing. It was a night to remember and Rural Soul was honored to have been a part of it!

Bob Warren and His Band graced Easton with their presence on Saturday night. A friendly crowd took over the town hall while Bob and friends shared songs from Bob's newest album, as well as some of his older hits. The audience spent equal time roaring with laughter, nodding in agreement, and wiping tears from their eyes. Bob's songs are easy to connect with, no matter people's political, socio-economic, religious backgrounds. The warmth enveloping us all came from the bodies and souls of all people involved - performers and audience members alike.
